IGAD training a workshop on Women Conflict Resolution and HIV/AIDS in Asmara
Women from the IGAD member states (Eritrea, Sudan, Ethiopia, Djibouti, Kenya, Somalia and Uganda) participated in a training that helps on solving disputes and conflicts in the region. The training started from 18-18 of July 2003 in Selam Hotel in Asmara.
High-level government officials and member of diplomatic care were present during the opening ceremony. Ms. Fozia Hashim gave a keynote speech during the opening.
Two South Africans members of Accord Dr. Jerome Limon and Ms. Pravina Macan gave the training. The content of the training comprises on methods of conflict and dispute resolution, negotiation and mediation. Besides training was given on Gender and HIV/AIDS participants recognized that the IGAD region is affected by wars drought and that people suffer from mass displacement, hunger and conflict.
Therefore, participants proposed for an IGAD policy on conflict resolution for all IGAD countries in these region and member states to support each other by exchanging experience and information.
The President of the NUEW Ms. Luul Gebreab gave the participant their certificates. Ms. Luul said, "Since women and children are the main victims of conflict, this workshop is very essential to help women participate effectively in conflict prevention and resolution."
