Fourth Annual Colloquium of Women Waging Peace

The President of the NUEW Ms. Luul Gebreab participated in the Fourth Annual Colloquium of Women Waging Peace from 02-08/November 2002 at Harvard University’s John F.Kennedy School of Government in Boston.

The Goal of Women waging Peace is to change the public policy paradigmn so women are fully integrated throughout formal and informal peace processes to prevent violent conflict, stop war, and sustain peace in fragile regions.

Towards this end some 40 women from conflict areas around the world participated in this colloquium.

Ms. Luul told the Eritrean News Agency (ENA) that participants shared their experience in peace building and challenges they face. A meeting with Top-Level officials of the U.N., US Department of State & others was arranged to look ways forward to the implementation of Resolution 1325 (2000) on Women and Conflict Prevention.

To strengthen the capacity of the participants sessions on advanced conflict resolution, mediation and negotiation was also given by Harvard Faculty and the United States Institute of Peace.
