Esel Intiative and NUEW’s Cooperation comes to an end
Executive Board of NUEW has decided to stop the partnership and cooperation between NUEW and Esel Initiative.
The National Union of Eritrean Women (NUEW) greatly appreciates the support provided for the disadvantaged Eritrean women. The donkey and canvas project has had a positive impact on amongst the down trodden women in our society. This project eases the long travel for fetching water and frees up a lot of girls time, allowing them to pursue education. Some have also used it to transport pregnant women reach the health center and others have used it as a source of income by selling water and enabled them to support themselves and their families.
NUEW has been deeply committed to working with your organization and has been expanding the project in all zobas since the beginning of our agreement, back in 1996. In recent times however, as you have noted in your letter, the partnership with your organization has become difficult.
The NUEW would not like to dwell upon the technical details of which the necessary rectification had already been made, nor would like to discuss why the oxen project was rejected as the NUEW has made clear its stand on good times.
For further clarification, the President of the NUEW on her visit to Europe in October of 2008 did request to meet with you and the Board of Directors of Esel Initiative, which was not accepted on your part.
Further the Executive Board of NUEW discussed thoroughly the new developments with Esel Intiative and decided to try once more to meet with you and the Board, of Esel Initiative. After informing you through the proper channel the response we got was not encouraging. The requested meeting with the Board of Esel intiative was not given any response and was informed that a meeting could be convened with you only.
The NUEW, on this occasion has been obliged to inform you and the Board of Esel Initiative, while appreciating and grateful for the support of the German population, and the leadership of Esel Initiative, to the Eritrean Women, the NUEW regrets that the working culture of Esel Initiative and NUEW seems not to be aligned and the Executive Board of NUEW has decided to stop the partnership and cooperation between NUEW and Esel Initiative.
