NUEW Executive Board held its bi-annual Meeting

The executive board of the N.U.E.W conducted its eighth bi-annual meeting in NUEW’s headquarter in Asmara on the 5th - 6th of July 2007.

 

In the meeting the Zobas and Departments heads of NUEW presented their mid-year reports. They evaluated the significant work that has been done on mobilization, sensitization, capacity -building, and economic empowerment of women in the Zobas.Executive Board

           

Noting the improvement of the current mobilization work of young female students in all the Zobas in general, the contributions of the NUEW chapters in the different public sectors in Zoba Maekel in particular, the Board agreed further steps was needed to strengthen the initiative.

 

Report of the reproductive health program indicates that the number of mothers delivering in hospitals under the supervision of professional doctors and women taking VCT (voluntary consultation testing) is improving. 

 

In addition, the Executive Board noted that the Campaign to ban FGM in all Zobas except in the Southern Red Sea Zone was successfully implemented. NUEW Red Sea Zone representative clarified it will follow suite soon and launch the campaign to make it a nation-wide effort.  

 

The Executive Board assessed that the donkey and container project, small-scale agricultural co-operatives, and handicraft projects are contributing to women economic empowerment and agreed that financial resources must be solicited to boost the micro credit program of NUEW and employment creation training.

 

The Executive Board commended the finalization of the Training Centre of Women in Gash Barka, which was funded by NUEW Branch of Germany  was a major milestone, that shows that Eritrean women in Diaspora resilience, in the fight for poverty eradication and social equality of women. Other branches of NUEW in Diaspora were called to revitalize their on going effort, to establish similar venues in other places of Eritrea.

 

Hailing the relentless effort of women in the national reconstruction of the country, the Executive Board of the NUEW in conclusion called all members to strengthen their participation in the National tree-planting program.
